Kayaking at Joe Pool Lake is best practiced close to the shoreline and along the many creeks that feed the lake. The most suitable paddling routes include Walnut Creek in Loyd Park — a state-designated paddling trail — and Mountain Creek, with put-in at Britton Park. With approximately 60 miles of shoreline, the lake offers extensive paddling opportunities. Kayak rentals are currently available at the Loyd Park Camp Store and the Lynn Creek marina. Restrooms are available at Loyd Park, Lynn Creek Park, Britton Park and Cedar Hill State Park.
Trinity Coalition has worked with the National Park Service to designate the Trinity River in North Texas as a National Water Trail and has developed a plan to pursue a Joe Pool Lake paddling trail with potential National Park designation.
